track 4: Wrong Way Corrigan
pride of the Irish skies
Only he can verify what happened on that flight
(sure was he)
Bound for California, or Ireland that night
Wrong Way Corrigan, pride of the Irish skies
He worked for Charlie Lindbergh
on the Spirit of St. Lou
And watched with fascination
as across the pond he flew
And he knew in that moment,
what he was bound to do
Fly the north Atlantic,
before his days were through
CHORUS
He toiled a thousand hours
and introduced his plans to go
The federal aviation boys
resoundingly said no
(And so he)
Told them he was westward bound,
now was the truth betrayed
Flew off into that foggy night
and history was made
CHORUS
Some 28 hours later,
Doug Corrigan looked down
He saw the field at Baldonell
outside of Dublin town
He told of how his compass
failed that night amid the haze
And even De Valera smiled
and winked at him that day
CHORUS
He returned to fanfare
and ticker tape parades
The flying Irish hero
whose bravery was repaid
He looked the doubters in the eye
and never changed his claim
even now people smile
to hear his famous name
CHORUS
